Shopping for a Nintendo DS Lite handheld console? As important as it can be to learn about the product design, features, and specifications, it can be just as important to review the thoughts of users who have gone before you. Every product owner is unique, and you can’t take reviews (good or bad) as absolutes, but a discerning reviewer can provide plenty of information about a product that its manufacturer can not. Also, real-world users provide a different perspective than a product’s creator: a perspective more like yours.

If you’re interested in the Nintendo DS Lite handheld game consoles, check out these reviews, below.

Nintendo DS Lite Handheld Reviews

5 Stars If you’re wondering which color to pick.

…then I STRONGLY recommend this Black & Crimson DS Lite!I just bought this one after losing (grumble, grumble…) my black DS Lite a few months ago. I really liked the black finish on that one, but red is my favorite color so I decided to give this one a shot.

Basically, here’s the difference: I would always get annoyed with my Black one because the glossy finish meant that there were always fingermarks and stuff all over it, and it would sometimes get slippery if my palms would get sweaty during a game. The stylus would also get a little slippery for me too, so I’d have to pause every so often to dry my hands.

This Black & Crimson one, though, has a glossy finish for the Crimson lid (only the outside of the lid is crimson, not the whole thing) but a MATTE finish for the black parts! No more slippery DS if I have sweaty palms (no jokes, please), and no slippery stylus either!

I was initially a little skeptical about the two-tone colors (I assumed the part around the upper screen and speakers would be red too, making it a little weird on my eyes), but having only the outside of the lid be red was a great idea — it looks flashy with its glossy-metallic red top, but it still looks like a normal black DS on the inside. And the matte finish on the black areas means no slipping in the middle of a game!

5 Stars Repairs and replacement are A+!

I’m sure everyone knows about the DS Lite – it’s a great little machine. But with kids using them, they break. Nintendo support has been absolutely great in repairing and replacing my units.I bought three DS’s (one for each kid) and then I bought a fourth so I could keep one for myself. With three young kids, though, one of the units is almost always getting broken or lost (through misue – not through any fault of the manufacturer). With this system, I lend my DS to the child with the broken one and send that one back. Within 2 weeks I get a new one back, and sometimes they don’t even charge me, even if it has water inside or was dropped!

They are excellent support people on the phone, they are kind and understanding, and even though my kids pulled the serial number stickers off the back (they won’t do it again, but they love to pull off stickers and didn’t know how important those particular sticker were), Nintendo replaced my unit for free.

5 Stars Perfect

I bought this Nintendo DS lite for my 4 year old son. I thought he wouldn’t be able to understand the game, but for my surprise, he started to play the same day that I gave it to him and buy a week later he plays better than me.
This is so easy for children and I’m very happy.

5 Stars I’m Hooked

I purchased a DS for my nephew, by brother and my mother. I finally decided to buy one for me. I’m hooked. I have several games to choose from. Some games click and some don’t. When you find the one that does it’s pretty much addicting. Everything is put on hold until I reach the next level. Get one, you’ll love it! P.S. It’s not just for those under 30. I’m 50+.

5 Stars Senior Fun!

We’re in our 70′s and my husband and I each own a Sony DS Lite and use the wireless link to play games each evening. We both wanted one because we fell in love with Sudoku and the Brain Age software but now we have branched out and are constantly looking for games we can play against each other.
The unit is so easy to slip into a purse or pocket (for the guys) to carry to appointments and make the waiting times fly by. Curious people introduce themselves just to find out what you’re doing! And marvel that seniors are having fun with what are designed to be children’s electronic games.
Hey! You’re never too old to have fun or try new things! Have to run…picking up my parachute at the drycleaners!
Ruthanne

3 Stars Nintendo cheapens out on the Crimson/Black DS Lite,

I was so excited to received the new Crimson & Black DS Lite. I even sold my Onyx one. When I started using it, I noticed right away that the screen quality was different. When you tilted it forward or back, visibility would be far worse. This was not a problem with the previous models. I wondered if it was just in my head, so I did a search online and found articles reporting this same exact problem. As it turns out, Nintendo did purchase cheaper LCD screens for their new models. These screens are considerably worse than the Onyx and other color models and led me to returning this product.

The Crimson and Black model does look very nice though. I personally did not like the back of the player. It has a rough feeling, compared to the glossy back of the onyx and is not as compfortable to use.
